Crazy Market

Thanks to the house republicans (well, 133 of them and 95 Democrats), the bailout bill didn't pass. Because of that the market dropped the most it has in history. What is wrong with this country? We are so fucked. Obama is up in the polls. Things may calm down and get back on track once he gets in office.

On another note, my mom is doing much better today and got her rental car. They still haven't decided if her car will be totaled or not. I think she'll know more tomorrow.

Aging

It's been an interesting weekend with my mother. She's 77 years old. I don't have to tell you that as we get older we begin to become the parents and they become the children.

Late last week I learned from her that she went to see a dermatologist to have some spots on her arms checked. She found out that one of them is cancerous. At first they gave her an appointment in December to have the spot removed. After talking with the boyfriend, I insisted she call and get an earlier appointment and tell them you don't think you should have to wait. She did and got an earlier appointment. She'll be having it removed later this month. I'm going with her to ask all the questions that she didn't think of asking when she found out it was cancerous.

Early this morning as I was driving home from the boyfriend's house, I got a call from my older brother telling me my mother had been in a car accident. The back end of her car was hit by another car running a red light and going through the intersection. Her car spun around a few times before coming to a stop. Luckily there was an off duty police man at the same light and saw the whole thing. He quickly went to her aid and told her not to move. Once he determined that she wasn't hurt or in any pain, he called my older brother and filled him in with the details. My brother took care of the car and got my mother back to her house. I met them there shortly after. My mother was pretty upset about the whole thing and was still shaking from the experience. We stayed with her for several hours getting her calmed down and getting all the insurance info taken care of. She'll be getting a rental car tomorrow and hopefully will get her car back in a few weeks. The driver's side rear was pretty messed up and the wheel was bent in so maybe the rear axle was broken. Not sure since we haven't heard from the insurance company about the details of the car.

She's fine now but this episodes remind me yet again that I'll be keeping a close eye on my mother more and more. When Homer talks about the issues with his mother, I can relate more than he knows.

McCain Wins!

Before the debate has even started and after McCain decided maybe he should attend, his campaign started projecting he'd be the winner. Does it ever end with these people?

The Failure Continues

Time Out

McCain said today he wants to take a time out from the campaign and the debate on Friday night to deal with credit crisis. Could it be that he is feeling pressure from a failing campaign, going down in the polls and the media pressure to talk to Palin? I think so. Does he really think this is a good move? I think not.

And on another note, the Enquirer is reporting the name of Palin's alleged lover. Can this get any worse for the failing campaign? I sure hope so!

What's your favorite movie?

Harvest 2008

This was harvest weekend at our favorite winery. The boyfriend's parents flew up from New Orleans to join us. This is the second year they've joined this. This is becomming a tradition. This is my 4th year harvesting grapes.

We stayed in a hotel Saturday night to make it easier to get up at 5 AM and drive to the winery. It was very chilly this morning but it warmed up pretty quickly. After getting a quick reminder lesson, we started harvesting grapes. With about 60 other people we harvest almost 7 tons of chardonnay grapes. We had a good time harvesting and catching up with the boyfriend's parents. Here are a few pictures.

Wine tasting before getting to the hotel.

Who Am I Talking To?

McCain doesn't even know who he's talking about. He confused Spain with a Latin American country. Is this the man you want dealing with our foreign policy?

Fox News Is So Stupid

Old Boys Network

I like the tougher Obama. He really called McCain on the old boys network comment.

McCain Yesterday, McCain Today

Yesterday John McCain was against regulation of the financial institutions. Today he's for regulation. That was the quickest flip flop in history. Does he not think we are keeping track of where he stands day to day?

On this Constitution Day we need to remember we have to put someone (Obama) in office who will restore the Constitution and work for the common man.

Another Birthday For Homer

Happy Birthday, Homer!

Homer in July when he visited and taught me how to make a pie.

Market Down

The market took a dive today. It was down just over 500 points. The last time I remember this happening was 1987. It may have happened since then but I don't remember. Maybe it was bad on 9/11 but my memory escapes me. Of course this means my retirement is in the tank. I guess I could just work a few more years.

The sad part is John McCain said this morning "the fundamentals of our economy are strong." I don't see anything indicating our economy is strong. His buddy Bushie says we can deal with these adjustments.

This is yet another reason we should make sure Obama is elected in November.

SNL Rocks!

McSame On The View

This is just one clip of the appearance.

September 11th for the 7th Time

All I can say is we have to get rid of the republicans and their fear mongering and their warmongering.

And I saw Palin on ABC News and it was joke. She doesn't even know what the Bush Doctrine is. And Charlie didn't really ask any hard hitting questions. Maybe he will tomorrow. We'll see. I doubt it.

Reality Shows

Is anyone else getting tired of the reality shows? I mean, I love watching them and all but it seems like all the shows this season.....which are all ending soon....seem to be very predictable. I'm still loving Project Runway and Big Brother but I have no interest in seeing the new Survivor. I don't know. Maybe I'm just ready for a new season of TV.

Pretty New Nanos

Today Apple introduced new iPod Nanos and a new iPod Touch. They refreshed the Shuffle line and the Classic line but nothing major with them. The big news for me was the new Nano. I think it's pretty and cute and fun. The colors are great. I love the new features. While I would love to have one, I won't be buying one anytime soon. My current Nano is only a year old and still works great. Of course at the first sign of trouble, I'll update to the new one but what color should I get?

Hanna's Gone

We made it through Hanna just fine. We had about 8 inches of rain and winds up to 43 mph but no damage to report. It was actually just like a really long thunderstorm without the thunder and lightning. The plastic furniture on my balcony got blown around just a bit and the plants got way too much water but nothing serious happened. We had plans to go to our favorite winery but decided against that when we saw the amount of rain that was coming down.

Now the weekend is over and it's back to work tomorrow.

Tropical Storm Hanna

I recorded a little video of Tropical Storm Hanna on my balcony.

Says It All

This picture says it all. Republicans are stupid.

Great write up of McSame's speech last night by Tom Shales of the Washington Post. I didn't watch all of the speech but it was simply more of the same. Just because you put a dress on a pig, doesn't make it any prettier.

Nothing Has Changed

I tuned in last night to listen to the trainwreck give her speech and was totally pissed off by having to listen to Rudy for 30 minutes before she came on.

Once she came on and I listened to the majority (I went to bed before the end) of what she had to say, my opinion of her hasn't changed. And I'm more convinced the mainstream press needs to look deeper into some of the issues that have come out about her recently. I also think the mainstream media needs to look into the claims that she had an affair with her husband's friend. I know they won't but I think they should. I don't think she said anything to appeal to Hillary supporters or to sway anyone else their way. If anything, she shored up the base and rallied the people in the room. That's it. Yes, almost as many people tuned in to see her speech as did Obama but for different reasons.

So nothing has changed. I still don't like her and don't think McCain has a chance.

Reckless Judgment

Drop Out Poll

Will Sarah Palin drop out?

We Learn More About Sarah

What did we find out about Sarah today?

1. She was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party that wanted to secede from the United States.

2. She was nearly recalled as Mayor of Wasilla because she fired the Police Cheif and Library Director for not supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor.

3. She received millions in earmarks for the tiny town of Wasilla. McCain has campaigned against such earmarks.

What else could possibly come out about this woman? As others have suggested, how long before McCain drops her from the ticket? Has that ever happened before? Is that possible in this case? Or is it just too late?

This gets better every day!

What A Mistake!

Okay, I've been at the boyfriend's all weekend and haven't been able to post anything about McCain's latest mistake. I almost don't know what to say. There's so much.

On Friday when it was announced that Sarah Palin was the VP candidate, I was shocked. What was he thinking? And then all the news stories start appearing on the internet. You can find out all kinds of things about where she stands on the issues and what her experience is. Let's look at what we do know about her.

1. She was the mayor of a town of less than 9000 people.
2. She's the governor of a state with about 683,000 people.
3. She's under investigation for having a state trooper fired.
4. She's a creationist. She thinks the world is less than 10,000 years old.
5. She's against abortion, even if her daughter was raped.
6. She doesn't believe global warming is man-made.
7. She is for drilling for oil in Alaska.
8. She has NO foreign policy experience.
9. She's opposes gay marriage.

The list could go on and on. I would have to question McCain's judgement on this choice. Surely he doesn't think she could actually take over and be the president should he die. It's sounds as thought she may not have been vetted properly.

Over the weekend the blogs were flying with rumors that Sarah Palin's youngest child was actually her daughter's child. It was finally released today that her youngest daughter Bristol is 5 months pregnant. As much as the republicans shout about family values, what does this say about them? The daughter of the VP candidate has a daughter having sex outside of marriage and is prenant? What credibility do they have shouting family values now? They can't be serious. McCain couldn't have known this or he would never have picked her.

And do they really think that picking a woman is going to bring all the Hillary women to McCain's side? How stupid do they think women are? Why would a woman for for another woman who would agree to take away her rights to an abortion?

These people can't be serious. What were they thinking? All of this only makes Obama's chances even better. Republicans are such hypocrites!
